Digital Multimedia Stories with Lesson Plans, Examples and Tutorials

These multimedia stories were created by students (some of whom are teachers) as partial fulfillment for ITEC 531 (Emerging and Assistive Technologies) at the College of Graduate and Professional Studies, University of Mary Washington, Fredericksburg, VA. We ask that you give credit to the author(s) of the activities, lessons, and stories you use.

Technologies used to complete elements of the projects: pencil and paper, PowerPoint, Word, Adobe Acrobat Professional, Windows Movie Maker, Photo Story, computer, camcorders, webcams, digital camera, Camtasia, Paint, Audacity, Windows Sound Recorder, and clip art.

Each digital story was created an an example to show to students. In some cases, student examples are included. The digital story lesson plans follow the Vogler CPA Model. In some examples Camp of Hope lesson plans are also included and are target toward special needs students. These lessons do not necessarily follow the Vogler Model.

Submit a Lesson

We are creating and maintaining a database of lessons for public use for students with autism. If you have a lesson you would like to submit,  download our template and email it as an attached file to: submit@careumw.com

About the Lesson Template. The template follows Vogler's CPA Model and will be used for consistency. Teachers may add SOLs or additional information to the model. If submitting student work as examples, please include permission transcripts.

Mike's original digital story was created first with PowerPoint. Family members "voiced" the dialogue and family dogs were the inspiration for the main characters in the story. Different parts of the project are to the right and all documents are combined into a bookmarked documents for easy viewing. Mike narrates the storyline in the PDF version. Mike makes good use of pedagogical coaches during his informative Virginia history lesson.

  • Bruce Chadwick

Bruce's original story was first created with PowerPoint. He added sounds and introductions by avatars (talking characters). Bruce also has sounds and a spoken introduction by his characters in his PDF version. You can access and compare both versions by selecting the appropriate "With a Little Help" file to the right. The speaking characters were created with a webcam using an avatar as a template over his picture. This recording was saved as a Windows Media File (WMV) and embedded into PowerPoint and Acrobat versions of his story.
